Funeral Notice: Virginia Sjoberg
Virginia Lou Sjoberg, age 86, of Jordan, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2024. A Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 11:00 am at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, Jordan, MN.
She was born December 7, 1937 in Gilbert, MN to Frank and Mary (Kramerich) Novak and grew up with 4 sisters. Joan Torris, Betty Platner, Carol Novak, and Debbie Jacklovich. She graduated from Gilbert High School in 1956 and was married to Philip Sjoberg of Virginia, MN on June 29, 1957.
Virginia worked for 3 years at the Arrow shirt factory in Virginia, MN before proudly assuming the role of homemaker, loving wife and nurturing mother to their two children Therese and Emmett. She was an active member of the PTA at the Lincoln and James Madison schools for many years. Following her children’s graduation, she went to work managing the Titlewave Book Store for 10 years.
Virginia and her husband enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, traveling, fishing, and canoeing. Her many hobbies included sewing clothes and quilts, knitting hats and scarves, crocheting afghans, and she loved playing cards with her many friends and relatives.
The center of Virginia’s life was her faith. She was an active member of the Holy Spirit Church and a member of the ladies aid. In March of 1998, she became a Benedictine Oblate at a ceremony at Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel in Duluth.
After the passing of her husband and son, she moved to Shakopee to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law. In early 2023, she moved to Oak Terrace Assisted Living in Jordan, MN where she lived out her final days.
She is greatly missed by family and friends for her smiling face, positive attitude, and the blessings she brought everyone she knew.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Therese (Mike) Miller; sister Debbie (Mike) Jacklovich; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Novak; husband Philip Sjoberg; son Emmett Sjoberg; sisters Caroline Novak, Betty Platner, and Joan Torris.
