DuAnn Frances Altman, 93 passed away suddenly and peacefully on March 11, 2022 at St. Gertrude’s Health and Rehabilitation Center in Shakopee, MN.
She was born February 22, 1929, to Alois and Agnes Klaphake in St. Cloud, MN as the second of four children. Her family taught her the importance of faith in God, keeping a positive attitude and not being afraid of hard work. DuAnn graduated in 1947 from Cathedral High School in St. Cloud. Her senior year classmates described her in their school paper as optimistic and friendly. She was quoted as saying, “I think life is wonderful except for a few occasions.” DuAnn fondly remembered her family visits to the farms of their relatives in Stearns County every Sunday. She enjoyed these large multifamily events spending time with her many cousins and their neighbors.
DuAnn and Gene saw each other at many of these gatherings. She didn’t pay much attention to him then, but he certainly had his eye on her. When Gene enlisted in the Merchant Marines, he asked DuAnn for her picture, and to write to him while he was away. When he returned, he tended bar at his parents’ establishment The Oasis. DuAnn took the job of coat checker there to be close to Gene. They were married in 1950. Because of the Korean War Gene was drafted almost immediately after the wedding.
DuAnn and Gene were blessed with a wonderful marriage and 5 children. DuAnn was caring and attentive to her family. Her cooking and baking skills made her home the choice for relatives on holidays. Her joy and loving faith were recognized by everyone around her.
The family lived in Golden Valley for almost 20 years and enjoyed going to the lakes, camping, and eventually building a cabin in northern MN which was only accessible by a mile boat ride across the lake. In 1973 the family moved to the bluff land near Jordan MN. Their family and grandchildren have many fond memories of them, gatherings at their home and having fun in the woods. Throughout her entire life DuAnn was an active volunteer in the community and their church. She and Gene developed many close friends wherever they lived. In 2000, DuAnn and Gene moved to Vero Beach, FL where they enjoyed the ocean and sunshine. DuAnn moved to St. Gertrude’s in Shakopee, MN after Gene’s death. The staff enjoyed her joyful spirit and gave her excellent medical attention with loving care.
DuAnn is survived by her children, David (Sharon) Altman, Ann Altman, Thomas (Brigid) Altman, Alan (Michelle) Altman, Jane (Tony) Ziebart; grandchildren, Christine (Ryan) Winkelman, Matthew Altman, Marie (David) Flores, Benjamin (Mona) Altman, Katelyn (Steven) Kerchner, Aleah (Josh) Remmer, and Zachary Corsi; siblings, Gerald (Jackie) Klaphake, Karen (Larry) Odegard; and many great-grandchildren and other loving relatives and friends. DuAnn is preceded in death by her parents, Alois and Agnes Klaphake; and her sister, Virginia (Elmer) Winter and a great-grandchild.

Born on March 25, 1947 to parents Stephen and Lorraine (Wanderschneider) Neisen, Steve was the oldest of their eight children. He was raised on a farm in Bloomington, MN before his family settled in the Lydia & Jordan, MN area.
After graduating from Jordan High School in 1965, Steve joined the Minnesota National Guard as a reservist for six years. Thanks to his upbringing on the farm, Steve was no stranger to hard work! While serving in the National Guard, he also began a successful career at MA Mortenson Construction. Dedication to his job allowed Steve to excel at work, completing countless projects and earning the respect of his coworkers. After thirty-five years, Steve retired from his position
as the concrete superintendent.
In August of 1968, Steve was united in marriage to Beverly Krohn. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters. While Steve and Beverly eventually parted ways, he continued to be a supportive father. A loyal and kind man, Steve loved his family deeply. He also had a special place in his heart for his cat Jimmy.
Wanting to return to his farming roots, Steve purchased an 80-acre hobby farm in Hendricks, MN where he embraced a simple yet rewarding life. Steve loved every aspect of farming and had an extensive collection of International Harvester tractors.

I was thrilled to receive an update from our Sister Parish, Saint Joseph’s in Mpobi, Ghana Africa! In November we were able to raise $3,436 from second collections to send them a Christmas gift. With that, they used the funds to fix broken concrete slabs in their classrooms, some repairs in the Church, and built a new urinal for the school. See the photos below! They sure can make money go a long way there!!

Gracing this world on October 7, 1936, Mary Ann was the last of four children born to Nicholas and Clara (Ruppert) Lambrecht. Born and raised on the farm, located in river bottoms of St. Lawrence Township, she and siblings, Harold, Ruth, and Dorothy worked countless hours tending to the daily chores. Mary Ann attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School through the Eighth Grade, before returning to the duties on the family farm. She also helped other area farmers as a nanny, assisting with raising the children and performing other household duties.
Mary Ann married Cletus Bauer on November 14, 1953, at St. John the Baptist Church. The newlyweds worked side by side on a farm south of Jordan. Here, Mary Ann and Cletus were blessed with six children, Connie, Kevin, Donald, Duane, Glen, and Dale. The family worked hard together, especially while Cletus worked nights to provide a better life for them. Mary Ann passed on to her children the same values to succeed in life as she grew up…faith, family, and hard work.
Mary Ann was always active. She spent countless hours in the vegetable garden and then canning the fruits of her labor for the family to enjoy. Mary Ann was known for producing amazing pickles. She also was an excellent cook and made hundreds of wedding cakes for happy couples.
Life for Mary Ann and her children changed after the passing of their husband and dad from cancer on his 54th birthday, March 12, 1981. As a family, they remained strong and persevered. Mary Ann worked outside the home at West End Lanes for many years. She enjoyed giving back to her community volunteering at the New Prague American Legion and when the blood bank came to town. Mary Ann would provide the bologna sandwiches and pickles for the attendees. Time also allowed her to be active at church, especially working the funeral luncheons. In later years, Mary Ann was fortunate to travel the United States on bus tours with friends. We must not forget her love for playing cards. Life was enriched when Mary Ann became a grandma and great grandma. She loved being involved in their lives attending their sporting events and school activities.
Forever missed, Mary Ann will be forever loved by children, Connie Jabs, Kevin (Chriss Glisczinsk) Bauer, Donald Bauer, Duane Bauer, Glen (Linda) Bauer, Dale (Shelly) Bauer; grandchildren, Paul (Michele) Jabs, Nathan (Sarah) Jabs, Jacob Bauer, Jennifer (Nick) Gerdes, Julia Bauer, Spencer (Emma) Bauer, Sawyer Bauer; 8 great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Jelen; sister-in-law, Maddie Lambrecht; countless nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Harlan Edwin Segler, age 84, of rural Jordan, MN placed his life in the hands of the Lord on February 13, 2022 at his home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 17, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jordan, MN starting at 11am. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the mass and on Wednesday, February 16, from 4-7pm at Ballard Sunder Funeral and Cremation in Jordan.
Harlan was born the second of eight children on July 17, 1937 in Norwood, Minnesota to parents Edwin and Esther (Foster) Segler. He was baptized and confirmed at the Reformed Church of Hamburg.
Harlan attended country school in Norwood, and later attended the Emmanuel Parochial School in Fish Lake. In those days it was the oldest boy’s responsibility to help care for the family, so he left school to help his dad on the family farm as well as the neighbor’s farms. At the age of 17, Harlan started working for the State of Minnesota as a Highway maintenance worker (No, he didn’t just lean on a shovel all day). After working with the state for a few years, Harlan attended Dunwoody College to receive a certificate in mechanics. Harlan also received a certificate of Commendation from Governor Jesse Ventura in recognition of his 47 years of service to the State of Minnesota. Harlan holds the record for “Most Consecutive Paychecks” received from the State of Minnesota, a fact he was very proud of.
When Harlan was 22, his sister Diane roped him into attending prom with her best friend Carol. That was the beginning of the romance of a lifetime. Carol became his best friend and the pair rarely spent more than a few hours apart for the next 57 years.
On May 22, 1965 Harlan married the woman he called “Gorgeous”. Three years later the couple was blessed with a son, Gregory Ronald. Another three years later, they welcomed home their daughter, Juile Lynn, and their family of 4 was complete. Harlan continued to work for the state, running his hobby farm, and working on his friend’s and family’s cars that lined up in his driveway.
Harlan’s two stall garage was a man cave for not only his friends, but also for his little brother Buckwheat’s buddies. Harlan just had to be sure that when they were grabbing a beer from the dual door fridge they opened it correctly. These “buddies” once thought they accidentally killed Harlan at Buckwheat’s stag party. They thought that Harlan had fallen and hit his head on his vice, when in reality, he fell with a bottle of ketchup and the bottle exploded. Harlan also took care of some mangey farm cats that he always complained about. But, those cats had it better than most inside cats.
Harlan and Carol took many amazing vacations together. The couple visited all 50 states as well as Mexico, the Bahamas, and took many bus trips. He also enjoyed his many adventures with Gene Hauer including trips to Florida and up north to run a sugar beet harvester.
Harlan was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and volunteered whenever asked. He loved to play cards and tinker on the farm, but his true passion was fixing up old cars and antique tractors with his son. Him and Greg have been members of the Credit River Antique Tractor club for over 15 years.
Harlan was always the first to lend a helping hand when needed, wrap you in a big warm hug whenever he saw you or shake your hand with his big paw-like hands. There was never a speck of dirt on his truck and his shop was cleaner than most people’s houses.
He is preceded in death by his Parents, Ed and Esther; Granddaughter Mickenzy Segler; Daughter in Law Debra Segler; Siblings, infant brother Edwin, Darlene Borka and Bruce “Buckwheat” Segler; and many other family members and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Carol Segler; Children, Greg Segler and Juile Segler; Grandchildren, Cassandra (Matthew) Ullom and Travis Jeurissen; Great grandchildren, Hailee and Aidan Ullom; Siblings, Diane Schroeder, Donna Busacker, Dale (Peggy) Segler, Charles Segler; sister-in-law, Jeanne Segler.
Preceded by siblings, Infant brother, Darlene (Ralph) Borka, Bruce “Buckwheat” Segler; brothers-in-law, Keith Schroeder, and William Busacker.
He was born August 10, 1959, at the hospital in New Prague, MN and passed away in the early morning hours on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at his home after a 18 month battle with pancreatic cancer. Gregg Busch was the eldest son of Roger & Mamie (Stehlik) Busch. He had three younger brothers, Tom, Pete, and Brad.
Growing up in Jordan was first-rate. Gregg and his brothers played games of baseball and football in their backyard and in the back yards of several neighborhood friends. Never-ending games, trading baseball, football and Batman cards and just 100% kid fun with Ron & Russ Beckman, Joe, Pete, Tom & Gilly Buss, Tom, Dave & Joe Dean, Craig Leibbrand, even the Dean and Hartman girls. Many of these childhood friends are his lifelong friends to this day. It was in those early years that he inherited his dad’s nickname, Rotz.
His schooling in Jordan included St. John’s Parochial School (1965-69), Jordan Elementary (1969-71) and graduating from Jordan High June 3, 1977. He then went on to college at Mankato State University and graduated Dec. 11, 1981, with degrees in Mass Communication (Journalism) and History.
He was lucky to have several great jobs in his lifetime and was employed by many outstanding people and businesses. In the summer months of 1976-1979, Gregg worked for Schommer Painting & Decorating under the watchful eyes of Mark Schommer, Ed Breimhorst & Albie Breimhorst. In the summer of 1980, Gregg did his internship for his journalism degree at the Belle Plaine Herald for Ed Townsend. From June 1981 to Oct. 1999, Gregg worked for Jordan Beverage, Inc. for Chuck Schwen & Larry Engelke. There Gregg developed many life-long friendships with co-workers, John Betchwars, Steve Betchwars, Les Buesgens, Andy Buesgens, Rich Mornson, Steve Eischens, Lee Kes, Sandy Laughridge, Larry Weckman & Diane Weckman. From there, Gregg worked at W.W. Will & Sons, Inc. from Jan. 2000 to November 2021. He had great bosses in Warren & Barb Will, Jeff Will and Tim & Donna Will. He also worked with good people like Fred Prchal, Greg Geise & Tim Busch.
Gregg also did sideline writing for the Jordan Independent from his high school days through the late 1990s for editors Keith Thaves, Mary Jo Mosher, Paul Sunder, Char Koepp, Barb Tieben and Mathias Baden.
Sports have always been a big part of Gregg’s life. While in high school, he participated in football, basketball and baseball earning two varsity letters in each sport. He was a two-year starter in football making 124 tackles in his career along with recovering three fumbles and scoring two touchdowns. Gregg didn’t play a lot of basketball but did help the team to two winning seasons with an overall record of 27 wins and 15 losses. His best sport was baseball. He started two seasons as an outfielder and pitcher. His career stats show 38 games played. He went .290 (29-100), scored 19 runs, 20 RBI and 12 stolen bases. As a pitcher, he had a 4-3 record with 25 strikeouts in 39 innings pitched with a 3.10 ERA. He helped the Hubmen win the 1976 MRC baseball title and was named MRC honorable mention all-conference in 1976.
From 1978-1982, Gregg played with the Jordan Brewers. In his career, he played in 100 games, batted .231 with 61 hits, scored 37 runs, had 14 doubles, 33 RBI and 18 stolen bases. As a pitcher, he was 5-12 in 26 games. He threw 158 innings, striking out 42 batters and had a 3.89 ERA. One of his biggest regrets was quitting the team the year they won the state championship.
Gregg found his passion for long-distance running in 1991. While thumbing through some old Jordan Independent issues he discovered that Rollie Sunder ran the 1990 Jordan Run of the Mill 5K (3.1miles) at the age 65. Gregg figured if Rollie can do it at 65, then he should be able to run that distance at the age of 32. Gregg’s participation in the 1991 Run of the Mill 5K triggered an interest in long-distance running and was a catalyst to the start of his extensive list of road races around the country. In his 31-year running career, Gregg ran over 28,000 miles (easily once around the world). He took part in 845 road races including 36 half-marathons (13.1 miles) and 61 full marathons (26.2 miles) in 31 different states.
Although he never qualified for the famed Boston Marathon, Gregg competed in many top marathons including Twin Cities (8 times), Grandma’s, New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and Rochester as well as marathons in Seattle, New Orleans, Cleveland, Dallas, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma City, Miami, St. Louis, Nashville, San Diego, Las Vegas, Louisville, Portland and Salt Lake City.
Through running, Gregg developed many long-lasting friendships. He ran several marathons with his brother, Pete. He also became life-long friends with Dick Olson, who served as a running mentor to Gregg.
Writing was another passion of Gregg’s. During high school he wrote football and basketball articles for the JI while also an athlete in both sports. He expanded his list of sports in the 1980’s with the addition of volleyball, baseball and track & field. In Sept of 1992, Gregg and Ron Beckman started the “Sports N Stuff” column which focused on local sporting events and features about athletes with a Jordan connection. Gregg always said “you gotta get names in the paper”. Ron left the column in Nov. 1996 and Gregg continued as a solo writer until Nov. 22, 2007. Gregg’s VAST collection of information and statistics for Jordan and all MN sports is one of a kind and helped him with all his amazing articles.
He read the Star Tribune daily and completed the sudoku, cryptoquip and crossword puzzle. Rotz loved to read mainly books pertaining to history, space and of course sports but he would read anything that he received as a gift (even “A Walk in the Woods” 3 times). He had 8-10 books by his bed and usually read a chapter a day in each. Gregg’s other interests included music (from classic Hard Rock to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir), Seinfeld, M*A*S*H, The Andy Griffith Show, NASCAR, Gopher sporting events, attending Twins, Viking, Wild, Timberwolves as a season ticket holder with family and a circle of friends that include Jim Bastyr, John Breunig and Gary Kalal to name a few. He was also on the “chain-gang” for Hubmen football games for nearly 20 years with Al Busch, Ron Beckman & Brad Heitkamp.
Gregg received the Jordan High School Outstanding Contributor to JHS athletics for his writing talents twice in 1983 & again in 2000. He was also heavily involved in the newly created Jordan High School Activities and Athletics Hall of Fame which began in 2019. His vast knowledge and books of stats helped the whole committee on their research.
Gregg always said that he was missing something in his life, however, that changed in September of 2004 when he met Connie Crimi and her family. Their many antics created many more adventures for him. Connie and Gregg completed over 150 5k races together, including a half-marathon. She traveled with Gregg to cheer him on in his marathon races; he attended her children’s college basketball games, and they attended many sporting events and concerts together. The addition of 7 grandbabies (all girls) added a little more madness to the mix. Their last trips were to the Grand Canyon and Ashville, NC to visit family. While she supported him, he also supported her through life’s ups and downs.
Family was a cornerstone of Gregg’s life. His dad died at the very young age of 42. His extended family (11 aunts & uncles as well as 34 first cousins) helped him get through some rough times. His uncle Butch Mamer took Gregg to several of sporting events and was like a second father to Gregg.
Gregg will be missed and remembered always by his mom, Mamie Busch, brothers, Tom Busch, Pete (Jean) Busch, Brad Busch; best friend and companion Connie Crimi and her children: Kyle (Haley) Crimi, Kelly (Nick) Fortis, Kassie (Gabe) Candelaria and granddaughters, Kinley, Emma, Olivia, Thea, Ellie, Sophia and Chloe; nieces & nephews; Joe, Billy, Laura, Stephen, Michael, Noah, Sydney; aunts: Gloria (Butch) Mamer, Mary Jane Busch, Dorothy Stehlik; life-long friends, Jim (Deb) Bastyr, John Breunig, Ron (Pam) Beckman & Gary (Lori) Kalal; “like a sister”, Trudy Anderson, many other wonderful relatives and numerous friends.
Preceded in death by dad, Roger “Rotz” Busch; Uncles & Aunts, Don (Mary Lou) Busch, Roman (Freda) Busch, Corrine (Russell) Welch,
Gerald Busch, Vernon (Kathryn) Busch, Jim (Rosie) Busch, Theresa (Gilbert) Krohn, Joseph (Patricia) Stehlik, Margaret (Arthur) Stresnak & Francis Stehlik.
Gregg was a kind, humble, caring and loving man with his own sense of humor. He was the guy who was asked many times… “what do you know about so & so” and would fill in the gaps with his impeccable memory and attention to detail and statistics. He will be missed by so many friends and family! The town of Jordan will miss the knowledge and LOVE that he had for his small town. No one loved or knew Jordan better than Gregg P. (Rotz) Busch.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
Gregg’s family would like to thank Dr. Neel Trivedi, Jill May, nurses Don, Sue and Kate at Abbott NW Hospital and the Allina Hospice nurses Sophie, Lindsey & Dana for their care and compassion. Also, our heartful thanks to all the family, friends and acquaintances that called, wrote and/or stopped by to visit with Gregg. Those loving gestures meant the world to him and to his family.

In her free time, Pet enjoyed yard work, vegetable gardening, canning, embroidery, and baking. Often, Pet was joined in the garden by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Every activity was made better if her family joined! Along with Chris, Pet would pack up the motorhome and visit family. They also enjoyed attending flea markets in Monticello and Annadale.

After graduating from high school in Jordan, Mary’s life was enriched when she met Bob Lee Doerr. They were united in marriage on November 28, 1964 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jordan. After their marriage, Bob and Mary started their family in Jordan before moving to Minnetonka, and eventually purchasing a hobby farm in Montgomery. During this time, they were blessed with three children, Dawn, Brad, and Kris. Mary loved being with her family on the farm, raising pigs, cattle, and horses. While in Montgomery, she worked for Munsingwear for 3 to 4 years and in production for Sheldahl for another 5 or 6. Around 1990, when Mary had her first stroke, she retired early and changed the direction in her life.
With her family, Mary loved going on camping trips out to Custer State Park and the Black Hills in South Dakota. She always had a love for fishing and even bought her own boat in her working days. She loved listening to old rock and roll and country music, and she loved being with her family, spending time with her grandchildren, and going out to eat.
A fun loving, family woman, Mary will be greatly missed by her husband, Bob; children, Dawn (Bill) Loftus, Brad (Jodi) Doerr, and Kris (Mark) Raymond; grandchildren, Megan, Melinda, Matt, Marc, Billy, Brandon, Brady, Ben, McKenzie, and Tyler; 11 great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by son, Bobby; parents, Gerhard and Lillian Busch; parents-in-law, Rudy and Sylvia Doerr; brothers, Kenneth and Myron Busch; and brothers-in-law, Kenneth Wendorff and Gary Doerr.
